Content Marketing in 2016

Dec 16, 2015 by Content Marketing Sydney / in Content Marketing

With only two weeks until the new year, we’ll be looking at what you should focus on to make the most out of your content marketing strategy in 2016.

Recommendations are an important component in your marketing strategy, whether it be by word-of-mouth or reviews.

Businesses tend to forget about how important this is after they create their website. It’s one thing to create a website, but it’s another thing to use these recommendations and reviews to optimise your online presence.

Search engines like Google are becoming more and more focused on social signals and personalised results for their users. This means they use more complex algorithms to ensure their users are getting the most out of their searches.

The search results Google gives a user are based on social interactions online, as well as in the real world. In the same way that you’re more likely to go to a business one of your friends recommends, the Google algorithm prioritises sites based on the user, and what the user’s online friends and colleagues are saying. Essentially, it’s about who you are friends with, how well you know one another, and how likely a person is to respond positively to a friend’s recommendation on social media.

As a result, we believe it’s incredibly important for businesses to ask their customers and clients to review products and services online. This builds your business’ credibility in Google’s eyes, and this affects how well you’re ranking for certain searches.

Yes, this includes your social media presence, which we’ve discussed in a previous blog. Google+ is a handy platform for your clients and customers to post reviews on, and it holds a lot of weight in Google’s ranking algorithms. If possible, ask customers to give testimonials, post reviews on social media, and tag your business where necessary. This leaves a bigger online footprint of your business, as it expands across other company pages and sites.

It’s even better if there are video recommendations. Video production is on the rise in the content marketing sphere. Video testimonials from your clients are professional, yet engaging. This medium used to be only reserved for companies with big creative teams and even bigger budgets. However, with modern day technology and software, it’s incredibly easy to make your own videos. You can even make great clip on your iPhone using movie magic (i.e. the correct lighting, setting and composition). There are also plenty of free video editing software programs out there as well.

All-in-all, we’re looking forward to what 2016 holds for us in the content marketing sphere, and it’s exciting to see an array of different mediums being used to engage consumers more effectively.
